Vaginal Care

What to expect ?

A baby girl’s genitals are very delicate, so it is important to clean this area carefully. Do not be alarmed, if you notice any of the following symptoms :

  • Genitals are swollen
  • Milky discharge
  • Slight bleeding

These symptoms are due to hormone exposure in the womb, which is completely normal and no cause for concern. The bleeding should stop within a few days while discharge and swelling should resolve within six weeks.

Cleaning

Clean your baby girl’s genitals carefully with warm water, a washcloth, mild liquid baby cleanser or fragrance-free baby wipes. Wipe the area from front to back, to prevent the transfer of any bacteria that could cause infection. Spread the labia and gently wipe down the creases.

Contact our offices if you notice any odor from the vaginal discharge, if bleeding has increased or does not stop in a few days.
